Abstract
The quality of service provided by any power distribution company purely depends on how fast they respond to faults or failure in the transmission and distribution system. The key challenge here is identifying the exact fault location. Various techniques like wire guide robot and wavelet transform technique can provide the location with approximation from 2 to 5 km. In order to improve the response time the location has to be exact. It can be achieved only if we have dedicated detection elements on that location. But the main constrain in this method the power required to operate the detectors. In this paper we have proposed a method to power up the detector passively so that the location of fault can be identified exactly with 10 m approximation. The fault considered for analysis here is line break.
