Abstract
A digital image is a numerical representation of a two dimensional image. Noise in digital images is referred to as visual distortion. There are different types of noises which hinder the quality of the image. Impulse noise is the most common noise present in digital images. Removal of impulse noise from the images is a difficult task in image processing. Impulse noise occurs in images during the process of image transmission and image acquisition. Many noise removal techniques have been proposed, each having its own respective advantages and disadvantages. These noise removal techniques must be designed in order to achieve mainly low computational cost, less hardware complexity and the design must be very suitable for real time applications. The proposed system develops architecture for adaptive median filter to remove fixed valued impulse noise from the gray scale images.
