Abstract

A concrete that is able to flow under its own weight and completely fill the formwork, even in the presence of dense reinforcement, without the need of any vibration, whilst maintaining homogeneity. Hence it has advantage that it can reduce the cost of vibration and labours required to compact the concrete. Along with major advantage, the SCC has few limitations such as higher flow ability which would result in segregation, bleeding, etc., by the cause of super plasticizer which is an essential admixture in self - compacting concrete. Hence it requires an additional powdery material to stabilize the concrete which will result in resistance against segregation and bleeding. Hence this project is the study of replacement of cement by Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS/GGBFS). In addition to increase of stability it is also an economical project because GGBS is a by - product of wastage of steel and iron. As mentioned above SCC's condition is satisfied only if the concrete can pass through dense reinforcement. Hence it is a major factor to reduce the size of the coarse aggregate and check the strength in various aspects such as Fresh properties, compressive strength, and ultimate flexural strength and also split tensile strength. Thus we have reduced the size of the aggregate and compared all the strength parameters with plain SCC and SCC with GGBS
