Abstract

Field experiment was conducted during 2015 at College of Horticulture, Bidar, to know performance of different onion varieties in Kharif season under North Eastern transition zone of Karnataka. The experiment was laidout by RCBD design with three replications. The significantly higher plant height (45.90, 55.22 and 69.42 cm at 30 60 and 90 DAT, respectively) was observed in V8 (Bhima Super). The significantly maximum numbers of leaves (7.12, 15.11 and 19.24 at 30 60 and 90 DAT, respectively) were recorded in V8 (Bhima Super). The Variety Bhima Super (V8) recorded significantly maximum marketable yield per plot (8.73 kg) and marketable yield per hectare (29.11 tones/ha), while significantly lower marketable yield per plot (5.00 kg) and marketable yield per hectare (16.66 tones/ha) was recorded in variety Arka Rose. Among the different varieties, significantly minimum per cent of physiological loss in weight was recorded in Variety Bhima Super (V8) (5.90, 7.41, 9.80, 19.24, 20.86 and 24.56%). Among the varieties, the Variety Bhima Super (V8) obtained highest yield (29.11t/ha) and net income (Rs.177888.89/ha), gross income (Rs.232888.89/ha) and Higher B: C ratio (3.23).
