DIFFICULTIES OF LISTENING COMPREHENSION OF ENGLISH TV NEWS

The article gives a brief overview of studies on teaching listening comprehension on the basis of audio and video files. Objective and subjective difficulties of comprehending a foreign language text have been defined. The results of a survey conducted among the students of higher linguistic school concerning the difficulties they face while listetning to / watching news programmes in English have been presented. Four groups of objective difficulties of English TV news comprehension have been suggested. These are difficulties: a) related to the content of audiotext; b) related to the linguistic form; c) related to the compositional and semantic structure of audiotext; d) related to the conditions of presenting English TV news. The defined difficulties have been analyzed on the example of a CNN news item.
