Abstract

By the data of the Kharkov Central Dissecting Room, the article analyses 80 cases of lethal outcomes inpuerperal who died from eclampsia in Kharkov within the past 20 years (1983-2003) with a morphologicalstudy of liver preparations from the dead women. In the course of the work done it has been revealed that themorphological equivalent of hepatic insufficiency was expressed in all the cases of eclampsia which causedthe death of the puerperae. It is manifested in the form of necrosis and dystrophy of hepatocytes with a resultant collapse of the stroma, as well as in disturbances of protein metabolism mostly localized in thecentral lobular portions of the lobes, fatty degeneration of hepatocytes, a diffuse lymphohistiocytic infiltrationagainst a background of exhaustion of compensatory-adaptive mechanisms. Prophylactic and remedial measures in gestosis must be directed at protection of the liver.
