Abstract

Analyzed the creative heritage of V. L. Modzalevsky in the Ukrainian genealogy and discussed his approach to the presentation of the genealogical material. The main focus is on his articles and «Malorossiyskу rodoslovnyk». Vadim Modzalevsky guided in its work on the works of A. M. Lazarevsky, V. V. Rummel. Historian widely used articles and reviews from newspapers and magazines. Considered historiographical tradition of the study of the subject, including works A. B. Kovalenko, N. V. Lobko, S. I. Bylokin'. The conclusion is that the works of V. L. Modzalevsky had a great influence on the formation of Ukrainian genealogy. Researcher improved traditional method of compiling genealogical paintings. His works also contain biographical information and social history. It is concluded that genealogy research of V. L. Modzalevsky is differed extraordinary, enormous wealth of source material, technical and skilled teaching methods of processing, gravity, balance and argumentativeness author's conclusions and generalizations.
