Abstract
In the iron ore processing to become raw material in metal smelting, industial waste is always become a problem. One of them is crushing plant waste which is shape a iron ore powder. Iron ore powder is difficult to be processed to become ingot, except it need to be treated first. In this research, it carried utilization of iron ore from crushing plant waste for pig iron making. Hot blast Cupola is being used in the process with charcoal powder injection to increase the temperature and reduction zone in the furnace. First, raw material like iron ore powder from crushing plant waste need to be washed and using magnetic separator it can improved the Fe content in iron ore powder. Afterwards composite pellet is performed using iron ore powder with particle size is 80 + 100 mesh, with the composition of pellet consist of 80% iron ore powder, 15% charcoal and 5% bentonite. The size of pellet is around 2,5 – 4 mm. Then reduction process is been doing in Hot Blast Cupola (HBC) with composite pellet as raw material. From the experiment obtained a pig iron with composition 93,62%Fe; 3,5%C; 1,55%Si; 0,87%Mn; 0,05%P; 0,087%S.
