Abstract

In this article, for the first time a brief review of caricatural genre formation in Soviet Armenia and abroad, where Armenian expatriate lives, is given. Numerous Armenian-language satirical magazines and newspapers influenced by the European caricature school had been issued since 50s in XIX century on the territory of Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Middle East countries and Western Europe. After sovietization of Eastern Armenia, the national artistic satire developed on the basis of Soviet artistic humoristics, where caricature was an element of propagandist poster. The diversity of artistic manner of Soviet painters L. Gench, V. Adzhemyan, S. Arutchyan, G. Yaralyan etc. and foreign artists A. Sarukhan, Ch. Tamatyan, E. Kiraz, R. Oviv etc, enriched Armenian satirical graphics and became a basis for the following generations of Armenian caricaturists.
