PREVALENCE OF HYPERTENSION AMONG DIABETIC TYPE 2 PATIENTS ATTENDING MEDICAL CLINIC AT PRINCE HASHEM BIN ABDULLAII HOSPITAL IN AQABA

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of hypertension among adult type 2 diabetic patients and to identify risk factors that may affect the development of hypertension in those patients. Methods A cross-sectional study conducted from September 2015 to march 2016 in medical clinic at Prince Hashem bin Abdulla II hospital at Aqaba. A total of 500 diabetic type 2 patients were included in this study .Data obtained directly from patients and patients medical files. Results: In our study, prevalence of hypertension was noted in382 (76%) patients. Hypertension was present in 207 (81%) females and 175 (72%) males .DM was controlled in 113 and uncontrolled in 269 and 204 patients having DM more than 10 years. There was 89 patients with CVD and 293 having no CVD. Dyslipidemia was found in 318 patients. And we found that 237 patients was obese 112 was overweight Conclusion: The prevalence of hypertension in patients with DM in this study is high Hypertension was the most risk factor for microvascular and macrovascular complications of DM. Focusingon detecting and managing hypertension in patients with diabetes is one of the most effective things that can be done to prevent adverse events. So intervention measures should be undertaken andearlier more aggressive blood pressure control are likely to offer the greatest promise for reducing the incidence of complications and its associated mortality.
