Abstract

The objective of this paper is to compare the strength of the Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) composite materials with the aluminum alloy Al6061. A detailed test method comparison is performed to assess the equivalence of test methods for composite materials in Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The comparison is made between two materials in which one is Aluminum alloy and the other is Glass fiber reinforced composites. The deflection of the I-section made with fiberglass and aluminum are assessed and analyzed. The experimental and analytical results showed the elongation % of the GFRP is very less in expansion compared to Aluminum alloy. Hence these materials are widely used in aircraft structures because the lighter the aircraft the better performance
