Abstract

The article observes the most outstanding Ukrainian baroque editions of the 17th century, deposited in the fonds of V. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine. The main features of Ukranian literature baroque style that influenced the structure and design of these editions are defined. These features are: allegoric, emblematic, panegyric and theocentric nature of baroque art. Allegory is considered as a structure-forming element of a baroque edition. Emblem presents synthesis of visual and verbal means in baroque artistic book design. Panegyrics become a popular genre of baroque literature, being published as separate editions, as well as a structural part of other editions. Theocentric nature of baroque culture expresses itself mostly in poetic prayers, which function as a common element of preface or afterword to baroque editions. Ukrainian baroque editions are remarkable for their artistic design, which is closely connected to the content of a book.
