ANALYSIS OF ROUGHNESS INDEX OF A FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT USING LOW COST INSTRUMENTATION

One of the most important measures of road condition is r surface. The instrument used for the measurement of road roughness is the merlin cycle and the analysis is given in this report. Merlin Cycle is used as it is categorized as low cost equipment. It is a machine which evaluates roughness usi instrumentation, utilized either for immediate estimation or for adjusting reaction sort instruments. In this study a low cost device has been indigenously fabricated/ developed to measure the roughness of a road's surface. Finally, experiments road stretches have been conducted. It has been observed that the overall roughness parameter in terms of (IRI) is apt to the road usage according to the guidelines given in IRC SP: 16-2004.
