This raises its great economic importance as a profession of highly qualified workers. O.Parzhnytskyi reveals the main stages of study of professional and technical education, history of formation and development of the training system for working staff in Ukraine from the end of XIX to the beginning of XXІ century. The author also characterizes studies concerning various aspects of the methodology, pedagogy, psychology and methods of vocational education and training in connection with the challenges which are faced by the economy, education in the context of world globalization, international competition and labor market needs, and those works which disclose some aspects of identity formation of a professional, describe mental neoplasms, ensuring successful implementation of labor functions at each stage of professional development. O.Parzhnytskyi proves that such studies have provided separation of professional pedagogy as an independent branch of knowledge, have proved historical significance of the achievements of vocational education from the standpoint of humanistic and democratic ethics. The author pays great attention to the need in implementation of competency approach in professional training of future highly qualified workers.
