Abstract

Identification of an individual using foot lengths is possible by estimating the stature and can be used to clinch positive identification in crime scenes. So an attempt has been made to derive formulae, which can be used to calculate the stature from percutaneous measurement of maximum foot length in both the sexes among the population of North Karnataka. Materials and Methods: 100 healthy subjects (50 males and 50 females) of age group 21-30 years from S. Nijalingappa Medical College, Bagalkot residents satisfying the inclusion criteria were included in the study. The foot lengths and foot print lengths of both the feet of the participants were taken. Results and Discussion: It was found that there is a direct relationship between stature and foot length in both the genders. In males, regression equation for right foot length was S = 92.5 + 3.0 X RFL with R2 value of 0.43 and that for left foot was, S = 85.32 + 3.3 X LFL with R2value of 0.52. In females, regression equation for right foot length was S = 74.27 + 3.53 X RFL with R2 value of 0.39 and that for left foot length is S = 73.5 + 3.56 X LFL with R2 value of 0.36.
