Comparison the Autobiographical memory specificity and over generality in women with depression, anxiety and healthy

Abstract

Introduction: The autobiographical memory of personal memory and personal life expriences is affected by negative emotionah states. Goal: The research compared the autobiographical memory of three groups of women with depression, with anxiety and normal control. Method: the subjects were consisted of 30 women with depression, 30 women with anxiety and 30 women without the history of psychiatric disorders. These individuls were selected from different consulting centers of Isfahan in year 2015. Then Autobiographical memory test were performed on the sample. Results: the results of multivariate analysis of variance showed that over generality and low specificity in depressed women was significantly more than anxious women and healthy, but there was not any significant difference between anxious women and healthy women in these variables (p< 0.005). Also retrieval of specific memories in response to positive words in depressed group was significantly less than two other groups (p< 0.002). Conclusion: these results showed that amount of over generality autobiographical memories reminder in depressed women is more than the groups of anxious women and healthy. Therefor, over generality memory of the characteristics of the mood is depressed. While there was not significant difference between over generality autobiographical memories reminder in anxious women and healthy.
