USE OF OSTEOPLASTIC MATE-RIALS OF THE ANIMAL ORIGIN IN ATROPHY OF THE ALVEOLAR PROCESS OF THE UPPER JAW AND PART OF THE LOWER JAW (LITERATURE REVIEW)

Abstract

In recent years, bone substitutes of animal origin have gained popularity in the use. The advantages of these materials are their close resemblance to human bone tissue. The biological properties of the material to a large extent depend on the structure and chemical characteristics of their surface. Materials of the animal origin create the necessary conditions for cells' adhesion, wound healing and tissue regeneration, and also act as a matrix for the new tissue being formed. Objective. To analyze the possibility of the use of bone materials of the animal origin in atrophy of the alveolar process of the upper jaw or the part of the lower jaw and the possibility of their use in postmenopausal women, as well as to compare the success of the reconstructive manipulation results. Materials and methods. In a retrospective study, 22 scientific publications were analyzed. The search of the material was performed using the Google Scholar search system and the Research Gate scientific portal. Scientific articles, having been published in the period from 2013 to 2017, were selected for the detailed analysis. The results of the analysis were interpreted in accordance with the main objective of the study. Results of the work. The results, obtained from the systemic retrospective analysis, do not provide sufficient evidence base for the clarification of specific advantages of osteoplastic materials' use, depending on their origin, in the treatment of atrophy of the alveolar process of the upper jaw or the part of the lower jaw. The osteoplastic materials should be selected in accordance with the anatomical peculiarities of the particular patient. The volume of necessary surgical interventions depends on the degree of severity of the jaw bone tissue atrophy. Conclusions: As a result of the performed review, there were obtained data on the use of bone materials of animal origin in atrophy of the alveolar process of the upper jaw and part of the lower jaw, as well as their use in conjunction with autogenous bone materials. However, the above-mentioned data are only isolated studies, suggesting a need for a deeper and more meaningful study of the peculiarities of their use in jaw atrophy, particularly in postmenopausal women, in combination with ossein-hydroxyapatite compound, which is, in our opinion, a promising area of research.
