Abstract

The textile mill uses a large quantity of fresh water for wet operations such as Desizing, bleaching, dyeing etc. The discharged wastewater generated from these processes is treated in ETP by adding chemicals like Ferric chloride; Lime, Alum, Polyelectrolyte, & Ferric chloride are used to remove traces of cotton and dyes. Throughout the cycle, sludge gets accumulated within the primary and secondary clarifiers, which is more dried in sludge drying beds. The sludge that is generated in ETPs is not only troublesome to that industry but also affects the environment and also causes the problem to the people. Several textile mills use disposal options like dumping the waste in the land. Therefore, this would lead to explore various reuse options of sludge for sustainable development. The sludge that is an inevitable solid waste treatment processes is classified under toxic substance by statutory authorities. Presently a large amount of sludge is disposed in protected area within the treatment plant premises and awaits an appropriate disposal methodology [3]. As a large amount of sludge produced by wastewater treatment plant will increase effective reuse and safe disposal of sludge become a lot more important. It is also not good to dump the sludge in open area because it generates health problem to the people. It also not dumped in the fertile land because of different type chemical added to it [5, 6]. In India, the industry sector is divided into 3 categories that are Red, Orange and green. Textile mill industry comes under the Orange category.
