Abstract

The foundation of a building or road is a critical part for effective spreading of load to the subsoil existing underneath it. The quality of soil has huge effect on the type of structure and its design. The Pavement failures may occur due to the intrusion of subgrade soils into the granular base, which results in inadequate drainage and reduced stability. Distress may also occur due to excessive loads that cause a shear failure in the subgrade, base course, or the surface. Other causes of failures are surface fatigue and excessive settlement, especially differential of the subgrade [1]. At present, with the fruitful development of infrastructures such as motorways, high-speed railways and canals, a lot of projects will encompasses the areas with this soil. The clayey soil endures volume changes when they originated in contact with water. By the above considerations, the existing ground upgrading is necessary to increase the properties of clayey soil. The improvement in engineering properties of clayey soil such as increase in strength (shearing resistance), stiffness (resistance to deformation) and durability (wear resistance), reduction in swelling potential of wet clayey soils can be done by soil stabilization [2]. On the other hand, large amount of waste materials produced annually throughout the world due to prompt economic growth and industrialization, creates a tremendous threat to public health and ecology. These waste materials can be utilized as additives for construction to increase the properties of the soil in terms of strength and durability [3].
