The article is focused on the analysis of everyday ideas about time, The article gives an analysis of everyday ideas about the time contained in Russian sayings, proverbs and idioms. The study is preceded by a characteristic of specific features of everyday knowledge in general, and in particular, such as categorical, anon- ymous, antinomic, contradictory, spontaneous. The idea of the genetic connection of the problem of time in the commonplace notions and philosophical knowledge with reference to such qualities and aspects of time as reali- ty, objectivity, continuity, asymmetry, and also in relation to its role in human existence is substantiated
