Abstract

While in Pereyaslav at the invitation of his close friend Andriy Kozachkovsky, Taras Shevchenko performed the task of the Kyiv archeographical commission – described and painted the monuments of antiquity. Taras Shevchenko always loved the provincial Pereyaslav. The two-month stay of the artist in the city contributed to his creative elevation. This creative period in the life of the poet in the literature is called the Pereiaslav Autumn of Kobzar. Writing famous works, pencil sketching, fragments of folk records is a fragment of what I saw, experienced and felt the artist in Pereyaslavl region. The article analyzes the ethnographic activity of T. Shevchenko in Pereyaslav oblast and its contribution to ethnographic science. Through the analysis of archaeological notes, drawings and prose works, T. Shevchenko traced the materials of the traditional Ukrainian culture in order to identify their national identity.
