Abstract

Globally, already 90% of available fossil fuels have been exhausted. In the upcoming decades, it would be difficult to depend on fossil fuels for energy needs. With the unlimited availability of renewable energy resources, it is apt to meet energy needs by harnessing such resources. The standalone form of renewable energy source is not reliable and won't produce a stabilized energy output. However, incorporating two or more forms of renewable energy sources, the reliability of the system can be improved. A huge demand for solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy combination is clearly there in the future due to the sustainability. The latest trends in optimization technologies in the Solar- Wind Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems are addressed in this article. The sizing, optimization and cost factor of hybrid renewable energy systems are also discussed. Particle swarm optimization method is one of the effective techniques to model the PV-wind hybrid systems.
