Abstract

Predicted in the National Curricular Guidelines for nursing undergraduate courses of continuing and / or continuing education is considered as one of the competencies to be achieved by the nurse, aims to fill the graduation deficits between theory and practice and ensure the quality of care. As the nurse is the professional closest to the patient, being responsible for providing care and ensuring that the client's needs are adequately supplied and with quality is of great importance that is enabled in the most diverse forms of interpretation of tests to implement a care without risk as fast as possible, noting that this knowledge is not to interfere in medical procedures, but to save lives. The objective of this research was to evaluate, through the available literature, the relationship between continuing education and the level of theoretical / practical knowledge of nurses' professionals related to the performance and basic interpretation of the electrocardiogram. This is a cross-sectional bibliographical research, with a descriptive character, with a qualitative approach, through an integrative review of the literature. The study pointed to a deficit in nurses' knowledge regarding the performance and interpretation of the electrocardiogram, and found that nurses do not know how many leads have an electrocardiogram, are unaware of the correct positioning of the electrodes, and are not able to interpret it fully. Risks to the patient and impairing care. There is an urgent need to adapt curricula to SUS guidelines and clients' needs, as well as the need for greater investments in continuing education and specializations.
