Abstract

The present paper deals with the relevance of implementation of International standard «ISO 2789:2013, Information and documentation. International Library Statistics» in Ukraine. Specific features of translating the terminology definitions are analyzed in the article. The groups of terms resulting from the transformation of libraries activity caused by the implementation of information and communication technologies in its activity were defined in the process of translating the normative document of library statistics. This area requires the further coordinated cooperation between linguists and library specialists in order to unify this terminology. Unification of terms and definitions in the field of library statistics will help to optimize the formation of an updated system of statistical indicators and will continue to develop the terminology of the Library Science as a whole. Implementation of this International Standard is of paramount significance for Ukraine because it significantly accelerates our integration into the world library community, enables our positioning as a competitive member. It will also contribute to the development and improvement of national system of technical regulation in accordance with the existing world practice, to the mainstreaming of the fund of normative documents, to encourage professional and effective networking.
