A STUDY ON THE BENEFITS OF ACADEMIC STUDIES ON LISTENING EDUCATION BETWEEN 2005-2017 YEARS

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe the field of listening / monitoring skills between 2005 and 2017 by classifying graduate thesis and doctoral dissertations and identifying the trends of studies related to this field and bringing them to the attention of interested persons. Qualitative research method was used in the research. The "Document Scanning / Review" model was used in qualitative research techniques during the collection of research data. In the study, 168 works were examined. 103 of the works examined are articles, 45 of them are master thesis and 20 of them are doctorate thesis. The works analyzed through the form were subjected to content analysis. The data are tabled and presented with frequencies and percentages. In the light of research questions, the following conclusions were reached: The number of researches on listening skills has increased continuously between 2005 and 2015, and the decline has been determined in the last two years. Of the studies examined, 86 were qualitative, 67 were quantitative and 15 were adapted to the mixed-research method. It was determined that 13 of the surveys were primary school students, 49 were middle school students, 3 were high school students, 29 were university students, 16 were teachers, 20 were trainees and 38 were with other groups. The main topics covered in the studied works are; listening attitude, listening comprehension, listening instruction, listening strategies / methods / techniques / types, listening activities, listening problems, opinions about listening
