Abstract

The English school, in spite of its tendencies to the intellectuals and realists in ontology and methodology, defines security as a normative value, not an instrumental matter, and believes that security is a social construct and can be changed, so it must be established in a security community that is not necessarily limited to the government. In this paper, we try to study the English school from different aspects. First, does this school have methodological and ontological interventions on the subject of security? What is the interpretation of the English school of security discourse? And the last question is, what is the relationship of this school with other schools, such as realism, rationalism, and revolutionism? In response to the questions posed in this paper, it can be said that the thinkers of the English school, despite the theoretical and practical importance of the security of international relations, have shown no explicit attention to security. But, according to the two "pluralist and solidarity-oriented" groups of thinkers in this school, it seems that both groups attempt to fill this gap in the thought of the English school with the suggestion of the argument that the English school is formed based on the core ideas of a clear and implicit understanding of security.
