CHONDROBLASTOMA OF FEMUR HEAD- CASE REPORT

Introduction Chondroblastoma is a benign, cartilaginous bone tumor with incidence of 1-2 primary bone tumors and 9 benign bone tumors. It usually occurs in children young adults around 10-20 years old with male to female incidence 21. Commonly seen in epiphysis apophysis of long bones such as distal and proximal femur, proximal humerus, proximal tibia . MATERIALS METHODS This case report includes a 23 years old male with complaints of right hip pain for past 4 years. Clinical, radiological assessment and biopsy done lesion found to be Chondroblastoma. Using Ganz technique of surgical dislocation of hip, the lesion involving the femur head and articular surface was exposed well. Thorough curettage of lesion was done. The void was packed with autograft. Results The patients clinical symptoms improved postoperatively. He has no restriction of hip movements except for 10 degree loss of internal rotation and able to squat and sit cross legged. Conclusion Chondroblastoma of femur head along with articular cartilage involvement is a challenge to treatment. The main aim should be to do a thorough curettage and augment with bone graft if necessary. Patient has to be followed up for recurrence, rarely malignant transformation and secondary OA of hip. In patients particularly with articular cartilage involvement, secondary OA has to be thought of and hip arthroplasty might be necessary in future.
