The article analyzes the activity of the AS of the UkrSSR on the preparation and holding of the IX International Congress of Slavists. This large-scale forum of scholars took place in Kyiv during September 6-14, 1983. The Presidium of the AS of the UkrSSR and the Ukrainian academic institutions of the socio-humanitarian profile made a lot of efforts to prepare and properly conduct the congress. On the basis of archival documents, which were deposited in the Archive of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Archival Studies of the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine and the Archive of the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, reveals aspects of the scientific and organizational work carried out by the Academy on the preparation and conduct of the congress, the aspects of the work carried out by the Academy on the preparation and conduction of the congress are revealed.
