The necessity of changing the vector of modern music teacher's professional training from the development of thinking skills of lower order to the same skills of higher order as a pledge of the successful individual's functioning in modern society is justified in the article on the basis of the analysis of the main trends caused by accession of Ukraine to the European and world community, integration of progressive achievements of foreign and home pedagogical theory and practice of music education. Bloom's taxonomy and its modifications are offered as a methodological basis for the modern process of music teacher training in the 21st century.
