Abstract

Purpose: This paper aims to identify the perception and the various precautionary measures taken by the general public during the rapid spread of COVID-19. Design/Methodology/Approach: A Cross Sectional Analysis is carried out to find out the perception and precautionary measures amid COVID-19 with the help of a questionnaire distributed inline. Findings: The results revealed that majority of the respondents are well aware about the COVID-19 and they have taken considerable amount of precautions on their own before the government announced the lockdown. The respondents are worried about the COVID-19 being spread rapidly in India than themselves getting infected. Research Limitations/Implications: The data collected confines mostly to the people of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu so the results may not be applicable to other parts of the population. The data was collected when the disease was rapidly being spread across India and the feeling of fear, confusion could have had an impact on the perception towards this disease. Practical Implications: This study is based on a smaller number of samples in a population although the the disease is widespread across the world. Social Implications: The government of India has taken certain challenging and need of the hour measures to curb the increase in the number of positive cases of the COVID-19 and this could have an impact on the respondents while answering the questions.
