Abstract

This research presents a transversal and qualitative empirical-inductive investigation on the address terms of candidates for the presidential post in five political debates on TV before the first round of the 2014-election. Based on the assumptions of Linguistic Anthropology, it is understood that the uses of address terms imply the study of structural changes involved in society. Thus, address terms are not classified and understood as fixed forms with an a priori interpretation, but as flexible forms that allow interlocutors to produce their speeches in complex and dynamic ways. The classification if a given address term establishes an approximation or distancing between the parties can only be determined case by case and moment to moment during the interaction. This research is not only concerned about the study of effect and how the words were placed on the world stage, but it also tries to understand by whom, to whom, why, where, what kind of power relationship can be inferred from the use of some address term. It is by the composition of them all that one can see how the social actor gave his point of view, his way of thinking about the world and human nature.
