Abstract

Multivariate analysis was carried out with 11 oil quality traits in 55 genotypes of Indian mustard. Principal factor analysis led to the identification of five principal components (PCs) which explained about 71% variability. The factor 1 explained highest 21%, of total variation as compared to progressively lesser and lesser by other four factors. Factor readability was improved through a varimax rotation. Based on principal factors scores, the genotypes viz., IC-417889, IC-312551, IC-491089, IC-491370, IC-31250, IC- 355344, IC-399809, IC-426386, IC-538803, IC-491566, and IC-426358 found superior for oil quality. Similarly, the genotypes IC-426311, IC-417889 and IC-538803 showed superiority for oil content, genotype IC-520769 for glucosinolate content and genotype IC- 426392 for erucic acid, whereas genotypes IC-264131 exhibited superiority for fibre content in de-oiled cake. These genotypes may further be utilized in breeding programmes for evolving mustard varieties having high oil content with superior oil quality.
