ASSESSMENT AND DEVELOPMENT TENDENCIES OF THE TRANSHIPMENT CAPACITIES AT THE CONTAINER TERMINALS IN THE PORTS OF RIJEKA, PLOČE AND KOPER

Sea ports represent the key subsystem within the maritime and transportation system, and the accelerator of traffic flows and the development of numerous economic activities in a particular country. An increasing volume of maritime container traffic requires the application of modern container transportation technologies and the implementation of new technical solutions. The container terminal efficiency, along with numerous factors, is the result of the accurately estimated capacity requirements and adequate means of transshipment. In this paper, the authors have analyzed the Ports of Rijeka, Ploče and Koper container terminals with a particular emphasis on the analysis and evaluation of the existing situation of transshipment capacities within the listed terminals. The aim of this paper is to present a comparative analysis of the existing transshipment capacities and the development tendencies of the above mentioned terminals.
