THE IMPACT OF THE APPLICATION OF TRAFFIC SOLUTIONS USING ROUNDABOUTS ON THE SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT SYSTEM

This study analyzes the impact of the application of traffic solutions using roundabouts on the traffic system in the context of sustainable transport through the following indicators: safety and traffic flow, the impact on the urban environment, socio-economic and environmental impact. Through the analysis of a large number of derivative examples and conducted studies, it can be concluded that roundabouts have unique features in the context of sustainable transport giving them advantages over other types of intersections. This is reflected primarily in the increase of traffic safety with a significant reduction in the number of traffic accidents and their consequences and better traffic flow at intersections. A roundabout offers a possibility of creating a comfortable image in the environment and a possibility for quality aesthetic design and shaping where the central island can be used as a space for exhibition and/or arranging new urban considerations of aesthetic space. The use of this traffic solution offers the possibility of calming traffic and improving the integration of traffic and pedestrians, and a significant reduction in fuel consumption, emissions and traffic noise. All these indicators contribute to the thesis that traffic solutions using roundabouts make a significant contribution to the sustainable transport system.
