Abstract

Abstract: Trauma to the epigastrium can lead to pancreatitis. Blunt pancreatic trauma is more common in pediatric population as there is less fat for insulation. Ultrasound can be used as an initial screening tool. Objective: T o d e t e r m i n e p a n c r e a t i t i s t h r o u g h Ultrasonogrpahy in post traumatic patient. Case presentation: Patient came with history of trauma 10 days back with complaint of pain epigastric region and continuous vomiting. U l tr a s o u n d s h o w e d a w e l l - d e  n e d heterogenous lobulated/oval shaped cystic lesion. No surrounding free uid, portal vein or superior mesenteric vein thrombus was seen. Patient was advised serum amylase level and contrast enhanced CT scan abdomen for further evaluation of complications regarding post traumatic pancreatitis. Conclusion: Ultrasound is a cost effective, easily available initial screening modality to be used for evaluation of post traumatic pancreatitis. The diagnosis usually made based on the increase in pancreatic volume and on the changes in texture detected on ultrasound examination. The most frequent complications local and distant uid c o l l e c t i o n s , p a r e n c h y m a l n e c r o s i s , superinfection and vascular involvement. Key Words: Pancreatitis, Pseudocyst, Parenchymal necrosis, heterogenous, thrombus.
