What is artistic mediation? A state of the art of an ongoing debate

The purpose of this article is to present a state of the art of the notion of artistic mediation. Through a historical and bibliographical review of the concept of mediation, it addresses the main theoretical and methodological dimensions of the term and elaborates interpretations about its practice in specific contexts like museums. Along with delving into the specific proposal of the German pedagogue Carmen Mörsch, this article offers some critical considerations of artistic mediation and discuss its limits and possibilities. Finally, it examines the cultural-political challenges of the term and elaborates a theoretical reading in order to achieve its practical implementation in cultural centers, museums, and artistic spaces in general.
