Abstract

Man is a social being who wants to live a stress free life but the course of life is not very even always. Therefore, human beings have to make continuous efforts to adjust to the challenging situation. As the ability to adjust varies in different areas viz. home, social, emotional, and educational, so does one's performance or academic achievement. Similarly, anxiety is also one of the important variables like adjustment which affects the performance of a man. The present study seeks to analyse the relationship between adjustment (total and in different areas viz. home, social, emotional and educational), anxiety and academic achievement of school students. The study is conducted on the sample of all VIII students of four Kendriya Vidyalayas of Cachar District of Assam. Survey type research method was followed with ex post facto design. Adjustment and anxiety were considered as independent variables and academic achievement was considered to be a dependent variable. The data for adjustment and anxiety level were collected by administering the two standardized tests on 120 students. Results show that there is a significant positive relationship between adjustment and academic achievement but the relationship between anxiety and academic achievement is significantly negative.
