Introduction. The article is devoted to the history of the construction of the Lagan fish canning refrigeration plant — the flagship of the industry in the Kalmyk Autonomous Republic and the third largest fish processing enterprise in the USSR. The purpose of the article is to highlight the history of the construction of the plant. Materials and methods. The study was carried out on the basis of the historicalgenetic method, which made it possible to highlight the history of the construction of the plant. The article is based on materials found in archives, periodicals and memoirs. Results and Conclusions. By the beginning of the 1930s. Kalmyk fishing enterprises produced significant volumes of fish, but there were no large fish processing enterprises in the region. In this regard, in 1932, it was decided to build a powerful fish-canning refrigeration plant of federal significance in Lagan. The construction of the plant was carried out under the special control of the leadership of the People's Commissariat of the Food Industry of the USSR and the leadership of Kalmykia, which made it possible to overcome considerable difficulties during the work. In 1935 the first stage of the plant was accepted, in 1938 — the second stage. After its commissioning, the plant became the third largest fish processing complex in the USSR. In addition to the enterprises and workshops of the plant, within the framework of this project, a number of infrastructure facilities were built (school, residential buildings, club, water supply, etc.), and its power plant illuminated not only the plant, but also the village itself. The commissioning of such a large complex required the involvement of a significant number of engineering and technical personnel, including national ones, significantly strengthened the working stratum in Kalmykia
