Abstract

The aim of this research paper is proposed to retrieve the exact fingerprint image from the large volume of a database with most accuracy through an efficient ESF (Extracting the Sub regions of Fingerprint) algorithm which identifies the sub regions of a fingerprint which are Ridges, Bifurcation, Trifurcations and Lake. The existing methods are mostly focused on the crossing number technique to identify the sub regions of fingerprint. It is very populated, easy and less computationally expensive. But it was failed in terms of accuracy because one of the sub regions lakes is wrongly identified as two Bifurcations which lead to retrieve the unmatched fingerprint from the database. So there was a chance for increasing FAR(False Acceptance Rate) and a wrong person may be treated as an authorized person in case of dealing with large volume of fingerprint matching but for a small organization the crossing number technique works well even though may be a rare chance for fail anywhere. This major problem is overcome by the proposed ESF algorithm and it also improves the accuracy than the previous methods.
