Abstract

Change is a universal phenomenon. Change is the unchangeable law of nature. Any alteration difference made in the particular object is referred to change. Social change is a particular form of change in the nature. Many factors are responsible for the change of society and a particular social system. The factors responsible for the change of a community or a tribe are education, income, technology, innovation etc. The tribal society is traditionally inhabited far from the crowd of general people and urban area. But due to reach of modern technology there is no visible boundary between tribal and general society. So there have been made certain changes among the different tribes of Assam. The Tangsa is also a tribal group living in the village of Malo in the Hill Malo,in the districtof Tinsukia Assam. In this study emphasis has given to see the major changes have been taking place among the Tangsa tribe of Malo village. The mixed methodology is used to conduct the study. The qualitative interview method and thematic interview schedule has been used to collect primary data.This study deals mainly with the socio-cultural and religious changes among the tangsa tribe of Malo gaon in Tinsukia district Assam. In this study an attempt has been made to throw some light on certain unexplored and interesting aspects of tangsa community. As the study shown that tremendous change has been taken place among the socioeconomic and religious sector in the life of tangsa community present day context. The study also found that there have been undergoing tremendous changes in their dress pattern, food habit. The economic structure shape them to follow little family norms. It has been observed that their house pattern has also undergoing changes because few people started to build normal houses in the ground. The socio-economic changes among the tangsha tribe is the result of the spread of education, interaction with the non-tribal or plane area people, influence of mass communication media and impact of marketing centers which have been growing in the tangsha tribal area.
