Abstract

Celiac Disease is a type of a disorder in small intestine that is caused by excessive intake of gluten. It is an autoimmune disorder which damages small intestine lining due to which nutrients contained in healthy food are not absorbed. So, detection of this disease in early stage is necessary in order to prevent the risk of malignancy, psychiatry problems and several other serious problems. Biopsies performed during upper endoscopy is well known method for detection and diagnosis of celiac disease. This study emphasizes on the various technologies like Water immersion, Chromoendoscopy, Capsule endoscopy, Narrow band imaging and compare the performance on the basis of different parameters like sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value. Computer aided decision along with endoscopy comes out to be very promising method, which can reduce cost as well as manpower because it would be observer independent. It is concluded that the performance of endoscopy methods varies for different parameters and water immersion technique yields good results when all parameters are taken together.
