Abstract
Introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) marks the beginning of the era for conventional motor vehicles. The main motivators for moving to EVs are the need to minimize polluting engine emissions and to reduce reliance on expensive oil fuels. By the end of 2016, the global stock of EVs had reached the two million mark. The increasing acceptance of EVs is the product of a variety of factors: technical developments, increased storage capacity of traction batteries coupled with their declining prices, increased public charging facilities and the Government. Incentive. The two EV developments currently remaining at the top are battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). This paper provides a summary of the different EV developments, their characteristics, weaknesses and difficulties in their mass application as a substitute for traditional vehicles.
