Abstract

The article identifies the importance of sustainable development for Ukraine as a whole and for agriculture as a branch of the national economy, as well as rural areas, as a center of residence for peasants. The social, economic and environmental components are analyzed, the balance of which is the basis for the sustainable development of agriculture and rural territories. Sustainable development goals that can be achieved through the development of agricultural service cooperatives are identified, which include: poverty alleviation, hunger relief, agricultural development, sustainable urban and community development. The strategic goals and tactical tasks of sustainable development of agriculture of Ukraine are described. It is substantiated that management decisions should be based on the concept of sustainable development when solving operational tasks of the enterprise. It is important at the decision-making stage to consider not only economic efficiency but also the environmental and social aspects of the problem. The scientifically substantiated existing models of rural development are considered (an innovative one based on territorial land use planning; an innovative one that combines the Franco-Polish system and the innovation platform with an informative advisory system; village conservation). The village conservation model has been characterized as the most practically-grounded and institutionally adapted to Ukrainian realities. The place of agricultural service cooperatives and united territorial communities in ensuring the sustainable development of rural areas has been identified. In the framework of this approach, communities should be the driving force for the development and coordination of cooperatives at the initial stage of their activities and creation. And cooperatives act as a mechanism for ensuring the sustainable development of rural areas, through balancing the economic, social and environmental needs of the peasants.
