Abstract

The article explores the history of the development of cross-border cooperation of the western regions with countries of neighboring states of Ukraine. The development potential of Ukrainian-European relations is described on the basis of studying the experience and history of the development of cross-border cooperation between the western regions and the countries of neighboring Ukraine. The chronological order outlines the major milestones in the development of cross-border cooperation in the western regions of Ukraine: Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Transcarpathian, Chernivtsi, Volyn. It is in these areas that the authors see the considerable and low-cost potential of cross-border cooperation. The theoretical basis of the study is a large amount of scientific and background information on the problems of development of European integration processes and development tools of border regions. In the course of the study, methods of analysis, synthesis, and the method of transition from abstract to concrete were used. The article proposes the idea of cluster cross-border regional cooperation and presents the conceptual basis for the formation of a model of a cross-border regional market cluster of the border regions of Ukraine and Europe as a tool for modern management of international market relations. The article substantiates the position that the priorities for creating cross-border clusters should be: firstly, the sustainable development of the regions of adjacent border territories, which involves preserving the environmental ecology for future generations, and secondly, the withdrawal of the clustering initiative from local governments and territorial communities.
