Abstract

In this article the authors present the development of a mixed integer nonlinear programming algorithm (MINLP), initially the algorithm locates the optimal node of the system in which the STATCOM should be located in order to compensate for the active power losses that occur. on transmission lines. Finally, the total cost savings (TCS) is determined. The General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS) is chosen as a solution tool applied to a case study for a 6-node test system. The mathematical formulation of the presented model is based on the operational restrictions of power flows in a transmission line and on the investment costs when implementing STATCOM devices in electrical power systems. The results obtained show that the active power losses are reduced when the test network is reconfigured, maximizing the total cost savings (TCS), the results finally obtained are compared with other authors who present different technologies such as the implementation of control systems. energy storage in batteries (Bess) in the transmission system and the expansion of the network. With the implementation of STATCOM in transmission lines it is possible to determine that this technology can be more efficient and economical, taking into account that the algorithm was developed for a small test system, giving room to promising results in larger and more complex systems.
