Abstract

The Great Gatsby, written by famous American novelist F. Scott FitzGerald, depicts the flamboyance and excess of the Jazz Age, as well as the decline of fancy American Dream rooted in American people's soul. Although it didn't receive due popularity as Fitzgerald expected when it was published, its value has regained its significant place in American literature as time goes by. Numerous experts and scholars from home and abroad attach much importance to the male protagonists, ignoring the female characters within the work.
