Abstract
The paper defines the contribution of the journal "Chervony shlyakh" to the Ukrainian Slavic studies in the 20–30's of the XXth century. The journal was originally intended to be an echo of Moscow's "Krasnaya Nov", but "Chervony shlyakh" thanks to its editors' and authors' efforts, has become a worthy representative of the Ukrainian national revival. Historical past and present of the Ukrainian people, peculiarities of political life, artistic novelties, translations, scientific discoveries, chronicle, bibliography – these are the issues that affirmed "Chervony shlyakh" as an active factor in the social, political, and artistic life of Ukraine. This study helps to determine the place and role of "Chervony shlyakh" in the social, political, cultural and artistic life of Ukraine in the 20–30's of the twentieth century; makes it possible to objectively determine the merits and budgets of each of the editors. The publication actively responded to both new and well-known classic works of Russian, Belarusian, Czech, Polish, Bulgarian, and Slovak writers, and did not escape the acute issues of the time. The journal editorial board given the floor to the authors who represented various ideological, aesthetic, stylistic, ideological directions, and readily published discussion materials, although not always avoided orthodox approach to evaluation. The paper methodology is based on the application of historical, comparative, descriptive research methods. The author investigated the quantitative indexes according to different classification criteria: authors' nationalities, scale of material, literary trends, time of publications. A general overview of literary and critical articles is conducted, and it made possible to assess its relevance and professional level. The regularities of conducting literary studies through literary and artistic periodicals are determined.
