The morphological influences of chagatai turkic on the contemporary uzbek poety in the takhar province of afghanistan

Afghanistan is a country that has been ruled by the Turks for over many years. Especially the northern part of the country is one of the oldest geography of the Turks, who still live in large numbers in the Uzbek and Turkmen regions. According to the Afghanistan's Statistics and Information Directorate, Turks are the third most populous ethnic group in Afghanistan after Pashtuns and Tajiks. Due to pressures exerted by the Pashtuns from the 18th century and the civil war in Afghanistan, the Afghan-Uzbeks were unable to study in their mother tongue in the last century, but in addition to religious education in the country's schools, they studied the works of Chagatai Turkish such as Amir Ali Shir Navai, Baba Rahim Mashrab and Sufi Allahyâr. In this way, they were able to keep the grammatical and orthographic rules of Chagatai Turkic alive, at least in their poems. In this article, the morphological influences of Chagatai Turkic on contemporary Turkic poems are discussed. For this purpose, the poetic works of contemporary Uzbek poets in Takhar province of Afghanistan have been studied. Contemporary Uzbek poetry of Takhar Province in Afghanistan still evokes the morphological features of the Chagatai Turkish in most cases. For example, the adverb suffix: “-bAn”, the prepositions “içre, üzre, ara”, the present continuous suffix “-A-dur” are still used as an old element in contemporary Uzbek poetry in the Takhar province of Afghanistan. Considering the cases above, in the present study, the grammatical and orthographic rules of Chagatai Turkic in the contemporary Uzbek poetry of Takhar province of Afghanistan have been studied.
