PROPOSALS FOR THE USE OF BALLISTIC MEANS OF PROTECTION OF ORGANS OF VISION UNDER CONDITIONS OF EXPOSURE TO IONIZING RADIATION

Basing on the analysis of modern specialized literature intended for military professionals, it is concluded that the basic concepts of alpha and beta radiation are insufficiently disclosed in it, as well as insufficient attention is paid to the effect of these radiation on human organs. This aspect is one of the important factors for assessing the degree of radiation damage a person performs a combat task under conditions of radioactive contamination. The review of the existing personal protective equipment of military personnel of the leading countries of the world, the analysis of the concept of creation of a complex of military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the existing state of equipment of the military personnel have allowed to conclude that they do not fully meet the requirements of modern military combat and do not allow military combat. The paper presents a mathematical apparatus for determining the minimum layer thickness of a substance, in which none of the electrons that fall normally to the surface from it does not fly out and depends on the energy of monoenergetic electrons, the maximum energy of the beta spectrum of radionuclide sources and the nature of the absorbing material. The paper provides examples of personnel protection organization involved in the Chernobyl disaster, provided that personal protective equipment was not perfected at that time. Given the current state of service of military personnel, proposals are made to protect the organs of vision of personnel in the conditions of radioactive contamination (contamination) and the impact of ionizing radiation (alpha and beta) by using modern elements of equipment of military personnel, namely: eyeglasses and masks. Proposals are being formed that can be reflected in the guidelines and algorithms of action in the context of the impact on the personnel of ionizing radiation and programs for the creation of a combat equipment complex for the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
