Pure and safe drinking water is the prime necessity of the life of human beings. A large part of rural population lacks access to pure and safe drinking water. They usually use biologically as well as physico-chemically contaminated drinking water. In a study of drinking water qualities of some of the villages of Katihar district biological and physicochemical contaminations were recorded in higher concentration in river Ganga water (10.10×107L-1) followed by dugwell water and tubewell water. However, tubewell water of some of the villages especially near the river Ganges were found to be contaminated with arsenic
